Percival Levett Senior

 

Percival Levett Sr. was born in 1552 Beverly, Yorkshire Englands. He was the son of William Levett and Joan Ynglande. He was an early merchant and innkeeper of the City of York, England. He was a member of the Eastland Company and sheriff of York in 1597.

 

Percival married Elizabeth Rotherforth. He was the father of Percival Levett, who was the father of John (Deacon) Leavitt, who was the first Leavitt to come to America. He was also the father of English explorer Capt. Christopher Levett, who founded the City of Portland, Maine.

 

Percival Levett died in York, Yorkshire, England 13 Feb 1626 and is buried at St. Martin's Micklegate in York.
